Orange Drop Cookies
By: Deloris Tucker
Adapted from the Hillsdale County P.T.A. Cookbook
In a cookbook acquired in 1951, there are many recipes that have been made so many times, the pages are falling apart and stained with the baking ingredients. This recipe for orange drop cookies remains the favorite that she made for her family. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 oranges (juiced and rind grated)
- 1 cup sour milk (still tastes great fresh)
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 5 cups flour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all ingredients into a large mixing bowl and stir until combined. Drop by spoonful onto cookie sheet and bake until very very light golden brown.
Make the frosting by juicing and grating the rind of 2 oranges and mixing with powdered sugar until a light frosting consistency is achieved.
Frost the cookies and enjoy!
